Cleaning process for plate Heat Exchangers

1. Isolating the equipment system and discharging the water inside the heat exchanger.

2. Use high-pressure water to clean the pipeline of silt, algae and other impurities and then close the system.

3. Install a ball valve (not less than 1 inch = 2.54 cm) between the isolation valve and the exchanger, with both inlet and return ports.

4. Connect the transfer pump and connecting conduit so that the cleaning agent is pumped in from the bottom of the heat exchanger and out from the top.

5. Start pumping the required cleaning agent into the heat exchanger (the ratio can be adjusted to suit).

6. Repeat the cycle of cleaning to the recommended cleaning time. As the cycle progresses and the deposits dissolve, the gas produced during the reaction will increase and the excess air should always be expelled through the bleeder valve. As the air is expelled, the space inside the heat exchanger will increase and appropriate water can be added. Do not inject a large amount of water at the beginning, as this may cause an overflow.

7. The effectiveness of the cleaning agent should be checked regularly during the cycle and can be determined using PH test paper. If the solution remains at a PH value of 2-3 then the cleaner is still effective. If the pH value of the detergent reaches 5-6, then a suitable amount of detergent needs to be added. If the final solution remains at a pH value of 2-3 for 30 minutes without any significant change, the cleaning effect has been achieved. Note: the cleaning agent can be recycled and reused, discharge will cause waste. 8.

8. After reaching the cleaning time, recycle the cleaning solution. And repeatedly rinse the exchanger with water until it is rinsed clean to neutral, and use PH test paper to determine the PH value of 6~7.

9. After completing the cleaning, you can both start the machine and run it. It is also possible to perform a pressure test to see if there is any leakage. If there is leakage, polymer composite material can be used to repair and protect and can greatly extend the service life of the equipment.

10. After the equipment has stabilised, take note of the current media over flow, working pressure, heat transfer efficiency and other data.

11. Comparing the changes in values before and after cleaning, it is possible to calculate the savings in electricity, coal and other production costs per hour and the increased efficiency of the enterprise, which is the value compensation for the application of the technology used by the enterprise.

12. The same method of operation can also be used for Condenser and frame heat exchanger cleaning.

13. If the company needs to passivate the equipment for pre-film treatment, the following process can be followed: pump the passivation pre-film agent into the equipment according to the recommended dilution ratio (while hanging test pieces in the circulation tank); cycle and soak according to the recommended time; test the pre-film effect (red dot method or blue dot method); discharge; rinse the water clean to neutral (PH value 6~7 measured with PH test paper).

14. After the passivation pre-film, it is advisable to use ventilation equipment such as fans to blow the system dry, which ensures and enhances the effect of the passivation pre-film.
